Just Do It

First I’d like to say hello to my old and new readers! Things have changed drastically in the last couple of weeks, I went from being a huge dreamer to being a DOER. I was tired of being in my head and decided to just do it.

A few days ago I leaped into action.  I took the first step and nothing but joy and success came from it. For those who have not read my last blog entry (You should, it’s amazing lol) I am an aspiring model. I recently went to something called #streetmeetdc where models and photographers meet once a month in a randomly chosen location. I almost didn’t go because I would arrive three hours after the hype, but something told me “gabby just go, if everyone is gone then go to a reggae club” lol. Almost immediately after arriving a photographer at the stop light corner pulled his camera out and started shooting me as I crossed the street. He then pointed me in the direction of where the magic was happening, I had to use the restroom but I was too scared to miss anything. Once I walked up I immediately went into a daze, it was a beautiful site to see. One person stopped me and asked to take photos, as I’m posing, at least 4 others walk up quickly to take some shots. This went on for over an hour, my adrenaline was high and my confidence was boosted.

A few days prior a regular customer of mine asked me to participate in a shoot for her clothing store, of course I’m all for it. Once I made the decision to DO, I ended up with two photo shoots back to back. The next day after #streetmeetdc was the violetshop photoshoot, I was nervous yet again, as if I didn’t just have almost a dozen cameras in my face the day prior. I arrived and met an amazing photographer by the name of “Al”, he was so interactive and helped me to relax in front of the camera. I remember hearing a while back that when we talk and dream “too much” we never get it done. Also, when we wait for “perfect timing”, we tend to never start. This is not to say do not prepare, it’s nothing wrong with getting the basics down! I’m simply saying, talking about learning to swim for years won’t stop you from drowning, it will only stop you from actually starting to learn, so dip your feet in the water and JUST DO IT.
