THE BIG CHOP

Less than a week ago I cut my locs, I thought I was going crazy and having an early midlife crisis the first time I thought about it lol. In all actuality it was my spirit telling me to let go because I’ve changed so much over the last three years. Just as many black girls, I’ve felt the need to hold on to my hair in hopes that it will one day reach the middle of my back, and eventually the back of my thighs and one day even my feet. Three years ago after a bad break up I decided to loc my hair, he wasn’t the sole reason because I always wanted them, but the break up definitely sped up the process. I felt like a new woman with my little locs, locs that would be with me through crazy days soon to come. My hair carried so much of my journey, and although most people keep it for that very reason, I think for me it was necessary to let it go. I was tired of carrying that weight, carrying the old me and it’s baggage. I needed to be free of it all. The last couple of weeks have been nothing...

The First Step

There are so many of us that dream big, that have goals of obtaining things that we feel are out of reach, but it isn’t. Sometimes our big dreams seem scary and impossible, but we have to let go of that fear. Sometimes we attempt to start that journey, but nothing gets accomplished, why is that? I think we struggle because we try to skip the first step, which isn’t good because it’s an integral part of the journey. You don’t just make 7 figures off of your idea, you must first take notes and jot down all thoughts; sometimes it’s better to actually see it on paper. After writing down your thoughts and ideas, and the many ways you can execute it, you then back track and organize those thoughts, depending on the person, when notes are messy you can’t function or get anything done. I suggest more than one notebook depending on what type of person you are. I have four, including a calendar one that has space for notes and sections for each day to add what I can’t in that small box. One is ...

Raw Vegan (Day 4)

Day 4 was kind of  “blah”. I had the zughetti (zucchini noodles with marinara marinara sauce) for lunch, which for some reason bothered my stomach this time. Breakfast was a green smoothie, it was good as usual, but I am definitely ready for a new blender for better results. I didn’t really have dinner, just like yesterday, the reason today was simply because I went crazy on snacks and then two hours later ate cereal. Tomorrow should be better, high hopes (Lol). See you tomorrow for Day 5.

Raw Vegan (Day 3)

So because I didn’t prep, I didn’t make anything new, I threw a salad together.   Breakfast included infused water again with cucumbers, strawberries and lime juice.  Lunch consisted of salad with cucumbers, strawberries, avocado, tortilla chips, and balsamic dressing, my favorite combination. For dinner I simply drank a green smoothie. Tonight I actually prepped, not only that but I did it on IG live for the first time.  This entry is really short and I’m am very tired after two hours of prepping. See you tomorrow for day four!

Letting go of what’s not for you

October 5 2018 was the beginning of my journey, I finally put in my two week notice. Currently on my lunch break thinking about my future and what it holds, I always said I’m destined for greatness, but I feel success boiling inside me as I type. I’m not even there yet physically, the time is now though! 8 more days until I break ties with this place! I recently opened up my journal I purchased over the summer, and on August 28th I said “do I really want to be here”, speaking about my current job, I already knew I wouldn’t make it to the end of the year. I tried to hold on, especially because I have a cruise coming up in November and also recently formed a spending habit lol. But what’s more important, buying new clothes or being stress free?  You can’t expect change to happen, until you make changes. It all starts with you, no it won’t happen over night or will be easy; we have to also stop saying “it isn’t that easy”, because then you will continue to procrastinate on your d...

Raw Vegan (Day 2)

Day 2 was a bit better. For breakfast I had infused water, in which I put cucumber and strawberry slices with lime juice, which I let sit overnight. Shortly after, I went for a jog, which was much needed; it’s been months. In between my breakfast drink and lunch I had gotten hungry and eaten one date, this is why I urge people to buy dates, figs, prunes (which ever one you can tolerate or like) because realistically you will get hungry when you first attempt to strip away food and portions of food your body is use to. Not only are these things providing fiber - which is important when detoxing- but it kicks that hunger craving really well. Remember to drink plenty of water, most of the time when we think we’re hungry, we’re actually dehydrated. Lunch, for my lunch I kept it simple as well, I ate a seasoned avocado, yes it is what it sounds like. I simply cut open an avocado (kept it in the skin) and seasoned it with cayenne pepper, sea salt, and pepper, first time doing it and it was soo...

Raw Vegan (Day 1)

Day one (yesterday) wasn’t too bad, I did wake up starving and decided to eat a medium sized salad, today I will do better with keeping breakfast light. Some will think “a salad is light”, but it all depends on what you put in it. I also suggest to keep breakfast at a smoothie or infused water (water, cucumber, lemon, lime, strawberries, etc). This may sound depressing but we have to work on eating light and allow our bodies to finish detoxing food from the day(s) before. A bowel movement doesn't mean you have been cleaned out good. It isn’t always about a bowel movement either, but simply giving your body a chance to rest.  Ok so lunch. I had cereal (lol) and it was very filling actually, I have just started eating the “Go Lean Crunch” brand. Also, in the midst of prepping smoothies I drank some, which kind of helped move things around if you know what I mean lol. Lastly, for dinner I made “zughetti” AKA zucchini spaghetti. First I had to make the noodles from zucchini and squa...

The Catalyst

Some people are a catalyst in our lives, what is a catalyst? A catalyst is simply a lesson, it’s funny how we always say people are seasonal, we know this, but we aren’t accepting of it. Every person in our lives has a season whether it is our parents, loved ones, spouses, and even our children. We have a habit of trying to keep people around for ever, and when they try to break free, we get offended and upset. This is why we shouldn’t tell people we would never hurt them, we should never tell people “I would never leave you” , even though it is said out of the kindness of our hearts and with great belief, that is an impossible thing to live by. Everyone will eventually leave and it may not always be when you want and how you want. Not everyone leaves by death. I often hear people say “its crazy how people switch up”, when in reality, yes we switch up, we change,  we all change over the years and sometimes when change happens that means that you are no longer needed in their lives...

How to begin the healing process

It is 2018 and I think more and more people are becoming more aware of depression and how serious it is. What we haven’t done is found any natural ways to deal with it. Although acknowledging this illness is a step in the right direction, what are we to do next to start the healing process.  Well allow me to let you in on my journey. The very first thing I did was go to the behavioral health center in my city, after being there almost an hour and only speaking with the counselor for about 10 minutes I was prescribed depression and anxiety medication. After a few weeks I begin to think what would happen long term if I continued to take this and when will I stop taking it. I did not want to be dependent on this, especially because it started to bring out emotions I had learned to mask, I was angry and crying more than I had ever before, shortly after noticing that, I stopped taking it. Ok ok, I’ll be very honest, one major reason I stopped was because I had just started drinkin...

How “Warning” people about others can cause more harm than good.

I know at times it can be very difficult to not warn friends about other people, but let me tell you how that can be more detrimental than a good thing. Doing this, you may be stunting another persons growth and stopping a lesson that needed to happen. Whether with your friend, that person, or both. I remember watching an episode of “Red Table Talk” , which is a Facebook series of Jada  Pinkett Smith’s. On one episode she had Gabrielle Union, that was their first time speaking in seventeen years due to some unresolved issues and drama. Gabrielle then spoke honestly about how much of a negative person she was, how she felt small in the presence of other women who received equal attention, and if it wasn’t for AJ Johnson (and hitting rock bottom)  calling her out at a party she would have never noticed and then changed her behavior. Gabrielle mentioned how she was insecure and talking about others made her feel “bigger”, we all know a person who may be just that, so we cut them...

Setting the tone for your life

Setting the tone for your life is a part of the healing process, we must remove all toxic people from our lives. This process can sometimes be the hardest because the most toxic people are those that we love and have history with. Another way of setting the tone is by either telling family and friends to not bring the negative energy your way, or simply not feed into it. We all know the saying “if you don’t feed it, it won’t grow”, that pertai ns to all areas of life. What you give your attention to will manifest in your life, the good and bad. I remember texting my spiritual sista and she would never respond, I would blame it on her being busy, then in a conversation one day she told me she didn’t respond on purpose because she didn’t want to discuss something we’ve discussed a thousand times, and also because it was a level she had already mastered. Most would say “as a friend she should still listen”, but I totally agree with her way of thinking, she was and still is setting the ton...

Your journey is yours

The best way to get to a peaceful, easy, care free, , money filled life is to simply.......... Wait, there is no specific way. The closest we’ll get to the “right path to began our journey” is by following like minded people, but even still, their obstacles are not your obstacles. Another persons journey is just that, another persons. Now of course we can take notes of what another is doing, why reinvent the wheel and go through more troubles than the inevitable? The unfortunate part of following ones lead to your own journey is that, you may not agree on all things or they may be on a level that you actually aren’t ready for, or it simply isn’t for you. I’ll give an example, my focus is on self healing, veganism, and evolvement. I have two home girls who are on a totally different level than I am, from the veganism to the spirituality. There were times where I would beat myself up for not being able to- or being too lazy- cook such extravagant meals. I would also get upset that I ...
